Any exercises for lower back muscles?

 

Q: I have had a few stiff muscles in my lower back… right above my butt for a few months now since being in a car accident and nothing I seem do wants to help these muslces. Any one know any exercises that might help?

A:  Sometimes when my muscles are so tense and no amount of stretching or mild exercising helps, unfortunately I have to resort to a muscle relaxer to force them to relax.  You might want to try Pilates.  Click here for some back exercises that you can do with Bodylastics resistance bands.  Physical therapists use them because they are low impact.

    Be careful. Most lower back exercises can cause injury or aggravate a pre existing injury if they are done too quickly or in a jerking manner. Find some low impact exercises. Go easy. If it hurts, then stop.

    Try some yoga poses, great stretching for not only the lower back but for the whole body!
