Question:

I want to work out my shoulders, but have absolutely no idea how! I have no equipment and I’m not heading towards the gym since my schedule won’t cooperate with it.

I’m thinking of working out at home, and basically I just want more muscles on my shoulders and I want them to be larger.

Question:

I am generally a mildly active person. I move around plenty, I have a decent amount of energy, and I am nowhere near overweight. I thought it would be a good idea to try to tone up. Yesterday I did what I thought was a pretty basic “brisk walking At home” type exercise program on tv. Now I am in pain! I am having a hard time walking up the stairs, and my whole body is aching. Is this a normal occurence? How much more basic can you get than basic walking? I am feeling ridiculous and out of shape.

If this is normal, would it be a good idea to continue to work out the next day, or should I wait for the aches to subside?

Answer:

How aggressive were you, if you were just doing “basic walking”. Your whole body hurts from walking? Yes, you should wait until the aches subside or you could risk injury. You can always try some no-impact workouts like with Bodylastics resistance bands. They have some great free workouts that you can do online. You can access them by clicking that link. Way less stressful on the joints, too.

I do not do sports, and am 6’4, pretty thin arms & legs. Except my stomach is a bit fatter than it should be. How do i fix this? Anything specific to eat or exercises to do?

Answer:

Start off with healthy eating habits. Lean protein, complex carbs (no sugars or refined flours), good fats found in things like almonds, also plentry of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Then add some strength training exercises. You can do them right at home. You’ll want to do total body workouts to engage all muscles. The lean muscle you build will make you stronger and it will boost your metabolism to burn off fat. The good news is that one of the first places you’ll notice it will be around you belly. Your pants will get looser around your waist.

You also don’t need to buy workout DVDs. Just click here to sign up for free workouts from Bodylastics. I highly suggest getting a set of their resistance bands you can get the most benefit from the workouts.

Question:

Serious answers only. My friend thinks no ab workout is the best ab workout. He claims that working all other muscle groups ( bench pressing, squats etc) is indirectly working your abs and that when you add up these indirect gains, it is enough work for your abs and that adding crunches is over working your abs. He says flexing your abs while lifting is enough and that doing abs is a “waste of time”. Is their any science/biology that proves your abs are being worked enough?

Answer:

You’re friend may be referring to compound exercises that work more than one muscle group at a time. But if you want to isolate only the ab muscles, then you have to do ab exercises. However, don’t spend your time doing only abs exercises because you’ll also need to do back exercises so your back muscles become as strong as your abs. Always maintain balance.

To get an idea of what type of exercises to do, click here for completely free workouts from the makers of Bodylastics resistance bands.

Question:

I want to lose another 10 -15 pounds within 3 months. I also want to tone my body more at the same time. I am already 119 pounds & I am 5’4″. size 2. But I really want to get back to my weight I was at during the summer. Which was 110ish.

Target areas in specific would be my waist. I am getting a little bit of love handles that I want gone asap. But also my calves, thighs, stomach, and upper arm.

I know it is bad – but right now I am eating no more than 950 calories a day. And I want to go to 450 and under. I have been doing “dancing exercises” for 35 min. a day. Concentrating mainly on my stomach and legs. – I know it is working because I can feel the burn and I sweat.

What else should I do? I walk a bit during the day, but not enough to lose any weight from it.

Any tips would be appreciated – like specific exercises, weight loss foods, etc.

Answer:

Good Lord, you need to eat more calories. Take your weight and multiply it by 10. That’s how many calories a day you should be eating to create a calorie deficit. Eat nutritious food high in fiber, protein, fruits and vegetables. Skip the fatty and sugary foods and drinks. When you eat too few calories like you are, your body goes into starvation mode and does everything in its power to conserve fat reserves. You will also lose muscle.

Muscle is your friend and you want to keep it and build more. The more you have, the more fat you’ll burn because muscle needs a certain number of calories per day just to stay alive.

Also, you cannot target fat loss around the areas you mentioned because the body doesn’t lose fat like that. For example, take ab exercises. All the situps and ab workouts will absolutely build and tighten your midsection, but it they won’t make you lose fat in those areas.

If you want to lose the extra padding you’ve developed, you need to do total body strength training. You will literally notice that your clothes are getting looser in just a less than 2 weeks because it sounds like you’re already pretty thin.

You don’t need to go to the gym and you don’t need to buy and workout DVDs. Just click here for free workouts online from Bodylastics. Do you have a smart phone? You can watch them on your phone, too.

I suggest doing their TX2 workout. It’s for teens and people who want to start a strength training routine. To get the most benefit out of the workouts, get a set of the Bodylastics resistance bands, too. You can get a complete set for under $30. I have a set and they really do boost your fat loss.

Question:

I’m 14 and i weight 150 pounds. I really don’t like the way i look i always get made fun of, And i’m very lazy to work out i would love to work out and eat right but i don’t know what to eat or how to workout. My mother wont let me go to the gym or anything she always says ” Do it at home” BUT i don’t have a home gym? Please help

Answer:

The home gym you need is a set of these Bodylastics resistance bands. You can get a complete set for under $30 and then you can do these free workouts right at home.

The fastest way to lose weight by June is to use the bands to do strength training. You’ll build lean muscle and muscle gobbles up fat! No cardio exercise can do that. The more muscle you have on your body, the more efficient your metabolism is at burning fat because each pound of muscle needs like 40-50 calories a day just to stay alive.

Muscle burns calories 24 hrs. a day. Cardio only burns calories during the time you exercise. The more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn, even on the days you haven’t exercised.

Click here to order your set of Bodylastic resistance bands now and sign up for the free workouts so you can see how to use the bands.

Should I take it directly after my Workout or like 20 minutes after my workout? ” I lift weights and building muscles “.

Answer:

Drink a shake right when you get out of bed in the morning because your muscles haven’t had any protein all night long. Then drink another one right after your workouts so the body has protein for the muscle building repair process.

Question:

I’m 38yrs, 5’8″ and 145lbs. I’m looking for a “home” program, something I can do when I get home from my full time job (sitting on the phone all day), at least 3 times a week. I have my evenings open, so I almost could do it nightly.

I have a treadmill and a weight set, although I have never really lifted weights regularly nor do I know the proper techniques to make the workout worth while…for instance how much weight, how many reps for how long?

I have been told to eat a lot carbs and protein, what kinds of foods contain these? I also bought a 4lb jar of “Weight Gainer” powder mix from GNC and have drank more than half of it without any weight change so I obviously need some direction.

Answer:

The carbs you want are the good carbs that come from whole grains, not the white flour refined carbs or sugar. Protein, yes. Lean protein from white meat, fish, even all types of beans.

Skip the treadmill. Sell it. cardio workouts are the worst thing for building muscle. They are for heart health.

About the amount of resistance you should be lifting. Do circuits. Those are exercises for specific body parts. You can do total body workouts 3x a week or do upper one day and lower the next. Start with 10 reps per exercise with enough resistance so you can barely finish the last rep. That’s how you know if you’re using enough resistance. Then very quickly set up for the next exercise and do 10 reps of that. When you complete all the exercises, that’s one full circuit. That’s all you can probably do to begin with. Then gradually workup to 2, then 3 circuits.

There is an excellent beginners resistance training workout show called TX2. It’s for teens and people who haven’t worked out before. It uses Bodylastics resistance bands. Once you get good at TX2, then graduate to the Chiseled workouts. They are more intense.

The Bodylastics bands are adjustable with clips on the ends, so changing resistance is hella easy and quick. Oh, and each Bodylastics set comes with a circuit training DVD. Complete sets start at under $30, but I recommend the Super Strong Man set for you. It’s got enough bands for a total of 202 lbs of tension. You can always buy additional individual bands later on if you need to expand.

Click here to access the Bodylastics free workouts.

Question:

I’m 12 years old, 5 ft 6 in, and I weigh 231 pounds. Yes I know its a lot, but this is why I’m so desperate! Please don’t make fun of me! Anyway, I’ve been trying to lose weight, and so far this week I lost about 2-3 pounds. I heard that’s the average weight loss per week. My step dad said he’s gonna help me tomorrow by lifting weights. I was confused because I didn’t want to gain weight by building muscle, but to just lose fat. He said the more muscle, the easier you can lose weight in the long run. I also heard that I could lose an extra 50 calories a day for every pound of muscle. Anyway, should I use whey to help build muscle, or just “turn my fat into muscle”. I also heard that while building muscle, you lose weight. Is this true? If so, how much? Thank you everyone who helps me with my problem!

Answer:

You can’t turn fat into muscle any more than you can turn a Chevy into a Ford.

Your dad is the bomb! He knows his stuff. You WANT to build muscle because each lb of muscle burns like 40-50 calories per day just to stay alive. If you gain muscle, the fat will melt off your body. Even though a lb of muscle weighs the same as a lb of fat, the muscle takes up much less space. So even though you gain muscle and the muscle burns off the fat, you are trading massive amounts of volume in fat, for the significantly small space that muscle takes up.

Lifting weights is a good thing, but be sure to workout your entire body. You can supplement your muscle building with Bodylastics resistance bands and their free workout show called Chiseled.

Question:

Don’t give me that bs how girls can’t build muscle. I have been working out, and now I look so gross. I started working out to lose my leg fat. However, I still have my leg fat, and now + huge muscles. Makes my legs look enormous compared to my upper half. My arms are built too but no where near the extent of my legs. How do you lose the fat from your legs without building any muscle? I would also like to lose some of the muscle too.

Answer:

You screwed up, cupcake. You CANNOT target fat loss with isolated exercises. Yes, you can target muscles to build those muscles, obviously you’re proof of that. But doing leg exercises won’t make you lose the fat on your legs. That’s not the way the body loses fat. I loses it all over.

You also screwed the pooch when all you did was leg exercises. That’s why your body is now out of proportion. You have to workout the entire body to stay in balance.

You don’t want to lose muscle because it’s the muscle that’s going to allow you to lose the most fat. Just don’t workout your legs so much for a while, but don’t try to lose the muscle. Lean muscles burns like 40-50 calories a day just to stay alive. If you lose your muscle, you lose much of your ability to burn fat.

Do resistance training with resistance bands. Get the kind with the clips on the end like Bodylastics so you can adjust them for the various muscle group workouts.

If you’re not sure how to use them, click here for totally free workouts from Bodylastics.
