How do I get good pecs?

Question:
My arms are good, but my core is pretty bad, and I look like a complete loser. When I ask people they say benching and pushups are the best for pecs, but when I do them, I only feel the pain in my arms. I’ve been benching for a month now and the only muscle increase is in my arms. What are some tried and proven exercises, that will get me in better shape?

I’m on varsity of my school tennis team and I swim a lot. These sports require a strong core, so why am I so weak?

And people say “tighten your pecs when doing this exercise”. Seems weird, but I can’t seem to feel them tighten or relax at all.

Im a vegetarian as part of my religion. I have a protein shake every other day. What are some other good protein sources that do not contain meat or fish? I can have eggs and dairy.
