How does body fat turn to muscle?
Question:
Ive started working out at the gym, my main goal being to build lean muscle. I have some excess body fat, which i am getting rid of through cardio, but some people are telling me not to worry about cardio and stick to weights and resistance training to “Turn your fat into muscle” as they say. but i have no idea how this is physically posssible, for fat to transform into lean muscle. Does anyone know the science behind this theory??

You are right, fat cannot transform into muscle. However lean muscle burns fat throughout the day so as your muscles get larger your fat will burn away, also doing a lot of cardio will actually hinder you from building muscle so you should keep it very light when training for optimal muscle gains. But if you don’t want to build muscle and just want to burn fat go ahead and do as much cardio as you can stand.
You are right to question it because you can’t actually turn fat into muscle. But people are giving you good advice to not worry about cardio and do weights. The science is this: Muscle burns more calories AT REST than fat. If you spend 30 minutes on the treadmill, you burn maybe 200 calories. Period. Spend 30 minutes doing weights, you burn 150 calories PLUS more calories for 4 hours after the workout PLUS more calories every day as long as that muscle is on your body! Keep adding muscle and you’re burning calories outside the gym all the time.
