Workout pains. Owwww! Advice?

Question:

I am generally a mildly active person. I move around plenty, I have a decent amount of energy, and I am nowhere near overweight. I thought it would be a good idea to try to tone up. Yesterday I did what I thought was a pretty basic “brisk walking At home” type exercise program on tv. Now I am in pain! I am having a hard time walking up the stairs, and my whole body is aching. Is this a normal occurence? How much more basic can you get than basic walking? I am feeling ridiculous and out of shape.

If this is normal, would it be a good idea to continue to work out the next day, or should I wait for the aches to subside?

Answer:

How aggressive were you, if you were just doing “basic walking”. Your whole body hurts from walking? Yes, you should wait until the aches subside or you could risk injury. You can always try some no-impact workouts like with Bodylastics resistance bands. They have some great free workouts that you can do online. You can access them by clicking that link. Way less stressful on the joints, too.
