Resistance Training Q & A

Can I do Two 30 min Long Exercises?

Question:
So far I’ve been doing 30 (sometimes 45 if I feel up to it) minute jogs on my treadmill at night and it’s great and all but I’ve been thinking to add a little more in the way of weight loss routines.

I just tried my own 30 minute “At Home” workout that involved jump roping, jumping jacks and situps and I’m pretty wiped. I’m sure that I’ll still be willing to do that 30 minute jog later in the evening though. Is that a good idea?

Of course I’ve been eating well too. (3 meals throughout the day, fruits, veggies, etc.)

Answer:

A more efficient way to lose weight is to do resistance training instead of so much cardio.  Cardio only burns calories while you’re doing it.  The proper resistance training only has to be done for 30ish minutes every other day.  When you exhaust your muscles during resistance exercise, it’s during the resting period afterwards (when the muscles are repairing and getting stronger) where the big calorie burn comes into play.  It’s called the after-burn.  You can literally burn calories while you watch TV or sleep.  Can’t do that with cardio.

You need more than just 3 meals.  Try like 5-6 mini meals to keep your metabolism up.  Don’t forget to eat some lean protein.  Muscles need protein.  The more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn.  You don’t need to eat meat.  There are plenty of non-meat protein sources.  Just search for it.

I have a source with tons of free 30-40 minutes workouts.  All you need is a set of these Bodylastics resistance bands to do them.  You’ll find the free workouts on their site at here.
