Is it necessary to use protein supplements to build muscle?

 

Q: I’m doing a workout program called ChaLean Extreme that has quite a bit of weight training involved in order to build lean muscle (I’m a girl so I don’t want to bulk up). Should I buy something like whey protein powder to make my muscle-building better? Or is that just if you really want to bulk up?

A:  As a girl, you don’t have the testosterone to bulk up, so don’t even worry about it.  Yes, you should get some whey protein.  Muscle NEEDS protein to live on.  If you don’t feed it protein, it begins to eat itself (catabolize) for protein and that is destructive metabolism.  As soon as you get out of bed, before you do anything else, have a protein shake, then as needed.  Read the label on recommendations.
