How do I diet and exercise?

Question:

I’m sick of being overweight and want to lose the extra pounds! I am a 5ft tall 18 year old female who weighs 142 lbs. I was never a fat kid until I entered high school and I wanna go back to being healthy. I’ve tried running and dieting for a month but since I’m no expert I really have no idea of what I should be doing to lose weight. Please don’t just say “eat healthy and exercise” be specific. What foods should I avoid? How often and for how long exercise?

Answer:

Skip the cardio (running). It’s one of the worst things you can do to your body. If you go to any gym, all the fat people are on the stair steppers, treadmills, elipticals and spinning because it doesn’t work! Go look in the weight room and you’ll see all the slim people. STRENGTH TRAINING WORKS!

But you don’t need to go to a gym and you don’t even need weights. Just get yourself a set of these Bodylastics resistance bands and workout at home. DO NOT get the cheap bands in the store. I looked at some of the crap that Target, Walmart and even some sporting goods stores carry. The tubes aren’t even real rubber and they come in tensions so low, they won’t do you any good. Bodylastics bands are adjustable. You can combine the tubes to create custom tension levels in 1 lb increments.

Also, get a copy of The Cardio-Free Diet by Jim Karas. He uses resistance bands to train top models and celebraties. He’ll explain which exercises to do, how often and what and when to eat. You CAN see results in 2 weeks. I found out about Jim Karas on the Dr Oz show a few weeks ago and immediately bought the book.
