Why is it that “eat right and exercise” doesn’t seem to actually work?

Question:
I was skinny my whole childhood. Skinny skinny. I got married at 21 and gained almost 40 pounds that first year. Since then I’ve been yo-yoing between marginally average in weight and fat. The only thing that worked was Atkins and I couldn’t stay on it because I developed food allergies in response to the restricted diet. I got down to maybe 135-140 on Atkins and eventually went back up to 160 after I quit it. I’ve been as aggressive with my weight-loss efforts as a 1,500 calorie diet and exercising (jogging and or lifting) for an hour, six days a week and as lackadaisical as not counting calories and just going for walks when I feel like it and other than changes in muscle tone, I have seen no changes. My weight never does more than flux a little and I waver between a size 12 and 14….

After I exercise I feel hungry and tired, not energized and less hungry like some people say you should. If I exercise moderately more than 3 times per week I end up with tendinitis in my ankles, plantar faciatis, and I can’t go more than an hour or about 4 miles without having to pee. I get sausage-fingers when I walk, I get Cholinergic urticaria (exercise allergy – no seriously. When I do even a little exercise when it’s below 70 degrees outside my legs get so itchy I can’t stand it. They turn red and I have to stop and let them warm up slowly, usually in a cold shower, slowly turning up the heat.) It’s like I’m just not meant to exercise. And now that I’m up over 170 lbs, I can’t even run, it hurts my fragile little joints too much and my breasts are too big for any bra to handle them with that much bouncing.

Am I just a freak or is it this hard for everybody? I’m not lacking motivation, I’m not lacking ability or time or a way to workout or access to healthy food. It just doesn’t work and my body doesn’t seem to want me to do any of these things….
What do I do?

yeah.. I’ve talked to 3 ineffectual doctors about my bizarre problems and the fact that I’m flabby with little recourse….they all seem to find it interesting but they have offered me no help.

Answer:

The Atkins diet blows goats.  WAY too much animal protein.  I did Atkins for a while and got hella constipated.  You’ve got to cleanse your body of all that junk to start with a fresh slate.  Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables and your cravings and tiredness will go away.  Don’t eat refined carbs.  Carbs put me to sleep in a heart beat.  When you start eating better, you’ll feel the difference in just a couple of days.  Then when you eats bad carbs, it will hit you like a brick wall and you’ll realize, “Wow, that’s where I was going wrong.”

I started eating right and walking and lost about 2 lbs/week.  And yes, I got plantar fasciitis.  That’s because the shoes I had sucked.  You absolutely have to get shoes with arch support in them.  I ended up going to a podiatrist and getting a foot brace to wear to bed and custom made orthotics.  In hindsight, they were both a rip off.  I could get the same foot brace for maybe $20 or $30 vs the $125 I was charged for it.  And the orthotics?  Sheesh, I could only wear them with my tennis shoes.  Couldn’t wear them with dress shoes.  Put your hand inside of the next pair of shoes you’re thinking about buying.  If they are perfectly flat inside, don’t buy them.  Get ones with arch support.  Order online from Zappos.com if you have to. You can also tape your feet.  Google it to see how to do it.  A shoe sales clerk at Macy’s told me about that.  Just 3 simple strips of white sports tape;  1 across the arch and the other 2 placed in a X shape from the heal of the foot to the opposite corner of the foot, just right behind the toes.  Does WONDERS!

For exercise to be effect for fat loss, it has to be high intensity.  You have to work your muscles to fatigue.  That’s means a low number of reps with high weight or tension.  The last rep should be very difficult to complete.  That also means you’re actually exercising less in time.

You don’t need fancy gym equipment.  All  you need is a set of these Bodylastics resistance bands.  They’ve got free workouts, too.
